ChristianBands.co.za is a directory of christian bands in South Africa, open for any local christian band or artist to register themself. Although there are other online directories for bands in South Africa, ChristianBands.co.za is the first dedicated to christian artists only. Our vision is to supply a online hang-out place for any-one interested in our local christian music scene, be it artists or fans. We intend to keep building on this vision and keep making the site better and better!

Ok you asked for it! It was somewhere in Febuary or March 2007, I was sitting in a University of Stellenbosh computer lab surfing the net. Being the patriotic South African and christian I am, I started to google for local christian bands, but finding them was a nightmare! I thought to myself, shurely there MUST be a directory for local christian bands! But the more I searched the more dispondent I became, I found only a few randam pages with reference to a couple of bands. Sitting there, immediately I decided, "This has to change!", and the vision for ChristianBands.co.za was birthed.

In the movie Patch Adams they use the quote "Never look at the difficulties when facing a problem, instead look at the answer". Or something like that... I can't remember, but anyway, I knew what the hurdles were standing between me and the final website: I never made a website before in my life! I had absolutely NO cashflow to support me in this challenge, and I had little info on the fuller local christian music scene.

But where there is a will and a vision, there is a way, or should I say, God provides a way. So being the exciting charasmatic I am, I started learning HTML and PHP. After a day or two of trying this I realized that at that rate it will take me years to finish the site. But God sent help in the form of a good friend who already knew web-development, Abraham Coetzee. He caught the vision, and with me promising that I'll make it up to him he started working on the site. God further supplied me with a job as programmer to resolve the cashflow problem. I then had enough money to support myself and start paying Abraham, not at all the amount that the work was worth! But at least a start. So I bought the domain name and started the website hosting. God supplied further by sending people over my path that knows EVERYTHING about local christian music, and I could start leeching off their knowledge :-)

After stacking up some cash I could once again continue with my own learning curve and work further on the site. Currently I am the only one working on the site, I just still run to Abraham every now and then if I have no idea how to continue :-)
